J.D. and Kim Crowley
J.D. was raised in Japan and Hawaii, while Kim grew up in South Carolina. Both J.D. and Kim Crowley trusted Christ as Savior at an early age. After meeting in college, they were married in 1980 and moved to Hawaii, where J.D. pastored Kea’au Bible Church for twelve years. But their hearts were always drawn toward work among the unreached. In 1994 Hampton Park Baptist Church commissioned J.D. and Kim as missionaries to pursue this long-held dream. Following a year of training with New Tribes Missions, they contacted EMU to pursue the prospect of missionary service under this organization. Although the mission had expanded into Chile, it had no tribal missions experience and no missionaries in Asia. After months of prayer and a meeting with the Board of Directors, the Crowleys were accepted as missionaries with EMU. Among the Crowleys’ early goals in Cambodia was reducing the Tampuan language (a minority language) to writing in preparation for a Bible translation. They accomplished this task – slowed by many linguistic and bureaucratic hurdles – during their first two terms on the field. J.D. and Kim have also witnessed God establishing over 50 churches in 5 different language groups in NE Cambodia, and they have helped disciple the church leaders and their wives. In 1999 J.D. began the Ratanakiri Bible School, an indigenous training program for tribal and Khmer church leaders. This school is now directed largely by the nationals. The Crowleys have also worked to produce doctrinally-sound Christian literature in the Cambodian and tribal languages – geared to the culture of SE Asia. J.D. is the author of The Kingdom of God: Studies in Matthew in Khmer and English; Commentary on Romans for Cambodia and Asia (English language edition available at Amazon.com); The Tampuan/Khmer/English Dictionary; and co-author of Gospel Meditations for Missions (available on Amazon.com).

Western North Carolina Outreach
Because KBM’s home office is within an hour’s drive of Asheville, NC, and the destruction from Helene, we have been asked to help collect and deliver relief items to many of the hubs in that area. With the help of all the KBM board members who live in the upstate of South Carolina, Joel Overstreet with Hawai’i Fluid Art, Jonathan Overstreet with Second Baptist Church in Belton, Dan Overstreet and Christa Schlichting, we have been busily collecting heaters, water, diapers, book bags, etc. Some have donated to KBM (PayPal) allowing us to purchase the items needed. Steve and Celeste Bailey have also used their private plane a half dozen times to fly in needed supplies. We are thankful we have been able to be the hands and feet of our Lord Jesus.
Christina also coordinated a Christmas shoebox drive for elementary students in W.D. Williams Elementary. Her volleyball team at Bob Jones University, and many other teammmates there, joined in on the efforts. Here is a recap of the outreach:
As Bruins our theme of the year is “we are light” and as Bruins teams, we are always striving to worship Him through our athletic gifts and abilities. The great need in Western North Carolina after Hurricane Helene gave us a unique opportunity to come together and be a light for Him as one team and serve the teachers and children of WD Williams Elementary School (WDWES) in WNC. Together we gathered team shoeboxes and packed these boxes with essentials like mittens, toiletries, stuffed animals, coloring books, crayons and lots of candy! Many boxes had personal handwritten messages and Bible verses written by the athletes. A non-profit, Kings Business Ministries, donated small candy canes that shared the true Christmas story. These boxes were thoughtfully packed and prayed over. The WDWES and Ashville Christian Academy (ACA) also received a large faculty/staff gift basket filled with December necessities such as coffee, tea, cocoa and gourmet chocolates. Our prayer is that by serving this needy community, we become the hands and feet of Jesus, spreading a light in the midst of their darkness. There are so many families affected by the hurricane and it’s been a joy to spread the Good News with the children and encourage the teachers in Swannanoa.
ACA is a ministry that has been a light in WNC for decades. Their school runs along the Swannanoa River and took the brunt of much debris at the base of the mountain. Consider giving to this ministry: https://www.ashevillechristian.org/hurricane-recovery.
Isaiah 52:7 (ESV)
How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news,
who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, Your God reigns.
